Is Sony’s VR Headset coming at GDC?

Rumours are spreading that Sony will reveal its much-anticipated VR headset next week at GDC.

Edge has reported that Sony will unveil the headset at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next wee, as well as some basic software to show what the thing can do. Obviously Sony has refused to commend, but the amount of sources reporting the story and the rumours leading up to this point lead us to believe that it’s a very likely possibility.

Third-party developers who have been given a prototype of the headset told Edge that Sony’s equipment is far superior to the current implementation of the Oculus Rift, the well-known VR headset funded by Kickstarter and causing a buzz throughout the industry.

Sony is holding a “driving the future of innovation” session at the GDC on 18 March, which is being hosted by senior Sony research and development executives Richard Marks and Anton Mikhailov, both previously involved in Sony’s PlayStation Eye and Move peripherals. President of Sony worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida will also be there, so whatever is happening, it’s clearly a big deal.
