Will the PS4 feature used-game DRM?

Following worries that Sony would follow Microsoft’s example and put a system that blocks used games in the PlayStation 4, Twitter campaigners staged an online protest hoping to catch the company’s attention.

Over the weekend, concerned gamers tweeted en masse to Sony executives using the hashtags #PS4NoDRM and #PS4USEDGAMES, urging the company to not use any form of used game blocking in the upcoming PS4. Two execs have now commented on the campaign, but concrete details are yet to be revealed.

Head of hardware marketing John Koller/@jpkoller had this to say: “This is why I love PlayStation fans- the passion bucket overflows

Later, SCEA producer Scott Rohde/@RohdeScott chimed in with: “I love passionate Fans!!”

Nice to see that Sony higher-ups are paying attention, but there is still no word as to whether Sony will indeed be following the unpopular precedent set by the Xbox One reveal. It’s hard to imagine publishers allowing one console a different set of rules than another. Presumably we’ll all know more after E3.
