Sega purchases Index, Atlus’ parent company!

Index Corporation, the company that owns Japanese developers and publishers Atlus, has been on the ropes for a while, and news broke this morning that its search for a buyer has ended with Sega purchasing the corporation.

What this means is that Atlus will now become a Sega brand, and all previous Atlus games will now be published by Sega. Whether the name Atlus will remain or the games will be re-branded under another label remains to be seen.

The purchase cost Sega 14 billion yen, roughly $141 million, and adds a huge amount of new IP to their lineup. Atlus has never had a European division, meaning we generally wait ages for third parties to negotiate bringing their games over. Could we now see Atlus games releasing in Europe the same time as the rest of the world? That would be nice.

Rumours of a Persona 5 reveal at TGS, the next installment in Atlus’ flagship series, are circulating, and the timing seems rife. Watch this space!
