PS4 sets record sales in North America

The PlayStation 4 is off to an excellent start, selling over a million consoles in the USA and Canada in the first 24 hours of release. This sets a new record for a PlayStation console, showing just how popular the PS4 is.

Sony is stressing that the figure isn’t units shipped to retailers but rather consoles actually sold to customers – meaning more than one million people in North America have already made the jump to the next generation.

“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” said Andrew House, head of Sony Computer Entertainment. “Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

The PS4 hits Europe on November 29 – less than two weeks time. Sony expects to sell 5 million consoles by the end of its financial year, 31st March 2014, and at this rate, it looks like a certainty.

I think in the UK we will see a 60-40 split in favour of PS4 over xbOne, or maybe a 50-50, but i doubt it.
