MGS Creator Hideo Kojima To Leave Konami?
Rumours have been circulating that MGS creator Hideo Kojima and Konami are going to part ways. The rumours were sparked by Reddit and NeoGAF users who spotted that the Kojima Productions website had been redirected to go to Konami’s Metal Gear Solid page and that references to Kojima Productions and Kojima had been removed from MGS 5: The Phantom Pain artwork.
Further evidence that Kojima Productions in its current guise is dead is to be found in the fact that Konami has set up a new Twitter account for MGS, to which it is pointing followers of the Kojima Productions account.
Konami hasn’t gone as far as to explicitly confirm that Kojima will be parting ways with the company but it has said this in a statement given to Videogamer:
“Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”
The failure to state that Kojima won’t be leaving pretty much tells us that he is indeed on his way. However, it sounds as if Kojima will maintain a consulting role on MGS 5: The Phantom Pain until it’s released.
The news raises a number of interesting questions: what will happen to Silent Hills? What will Kojima do next? What has caused the split between Kojima and Konami? We’ll be following this one with interest to see how things develop.
