FFXIV: Dragon Quest missions start today

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn only hit version 2.1 around a month ago but already, Square Enix has patched the game further to version 2.15. And to celebrate, a bunch of new crossover missions will be available for a limited time.

The new quests, once triggered, take the form of FATEs just like the Lightning cameo missions did – one set involves defending the realm from giant golems that have escaped from the Dragon Quest games, while another seems to set groups against an enormous Tarutaru from Final Fantasy XI. Naturally, there’s some cool loot up for grabs – a Thug’s Mask and golem minion from the former and a Shantotto minion from the latter, more specifically – but you’ll have to move fast if you want them, as these missions will only run until Monday 3 February.

2.15 sees quite a few under-the-hood tweaks and rebalancing changes based on issues and exploits discovered since the game’s first major update in December. Main points include increasing spawn rates for mobs and FATEs tied to Beast Tribe Daily Quests, tweaks to make gathering jobs more practical (such as GP restoring while using other jobs andnot resetting upon switching) and various balance adjustments to the newly-added PvP mode. Full details can be found on the Lodestone, if you’re interested in finding out more.

Work continues on the 2.2 update (as well as the PS4 version, scheduled to go into beta in February and launch in April), which will bring another truckload of new content including Leviathan as a new Primal battle (presumably with Hard and Extreme versions) and additional areas for end-game hellhole The Binding Coil Of Bahamut, as well as a bunch of new items, enemies and crafting recipes.

In the meantime, though, there are some new missions to be playing – get to it, adventurers!
