Tony Hawk’s HD Soundtrack: Don’t Change A Thing

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is exactly what needed to be done with the ailing franchise. All enthusiasm people ever had for it died in a hilarious, fiery ball of fury following the god-awful peripheral-heavy releases of Ride and Shred.

Returning to basics must have been a no-brainer for the brass at Activision. And if it did need some serious thought put into it, then maybe they should just put us in charge – we knew a long time ago Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD would be the best way to do things.

But there’s still something that worries, and that is the soundtrack. Recent comments from Dan Amrich, blogger for Activision, have suggested we might not get the exact, precise track listing from the first two THPS games. Speaking on this here blog, Amrich said:

“Music licensing is a one-time deal. The songs from the original games were only licensed for those specific games on those specific platforms at that specific time. Any other versions created later would need new licensing deals.”

He goes on to acknowledge exactly what we’re all likely feeling – the soundtracks to the original two (maybe three) games are absolutely ingrained in a whole generation of players. There are people who have most (if not all) of the artists featured on these soundtracks on their MP3 players (hello!). There are people who demand we hear more Consumed on a popular release, because everyone needs to hear more Consumed. Mainly so more people can know of the dreamy Wes OCP.

But the biggest point is: don’t go the way the soundtracks went in the THPS series. Don’t introduce too much hair metal, hip hop, rap and whatever else. Some is fine, but skate/pop punk is where it’s at.

Oh, and less Papa Roach. It’s fine to leave them out.
