There’s an Assassin’s Creed Movie Coming…But Will It Be Any Good?

Michael Fassbender is a man known for taking on difficult roles and nailing them. Sex addict? No worries. Losing a horrific amount of weight to play a prisoner on hunger strike? Of course. Leader of an unstoppable mutant army? Naturally.

But his recently announced involvement in a big-screen spin-off of the Assassin’s Creed story – as both star and producer – could be the toughest yet, and not only because the budget for doing it right would probably be around 950 trillion dollars.

There’s also the pressure of being the latest big hitter to try and make a videogame adaptation that’s not monstrously poor (like Bob Hoskins). Or get it made in the first place (unlike Microsoft). Or take a history-based Ubisoft franchise and make it work as a movie (unlike, er, Ubisoft).

We’re not saying it can’t work: the Animus is a common enough trope, and Hollywood is very very good at pumping out historical epics. We’re just not so sure that because it’s been announced it’s going to even happen, and if it does how good it’ll be.

But, if one man can do it, it’s probably Fassbender. Any man that can make something out of the mess that was Prometheus is clearly very talented.  We look forward to needing a constant internet connection on our person to watch it.

EDIT: We’ve been reliably informed that the Assassin’s Creed movie will, in fact, be good. Thanks to tipster ‘brad’. Phew, eh?
