PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale Is A Rip-Off. Not Our Words.

Pictured: PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale... wait, no. Yesterday.

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is just a rip-off of Super Smash Brothers, according to Hideki Kamiya. Normally we’d disagree with such a crazy opinion, but the fact is 1. He’s right, and 2. It’s Kamiya so we’re not about to question him.

Things were highlighted on the Greatest Forum In The World (apart from Imagine Publishing’s internal message board, obviously) as Kamiya got into a mini-slanging match with those who felt personally affronted by the temerity of a man having an opinion.

An opinion that’s probably correct.

It’s not that being rather clearly derived from something like Smash Brothers is a bad thing in itself – that’s something people should understand. You’re still allowed to look forward to the game, and it might still be fun. But there’s no harm done in pointing out the massive similarities twixt Smash Bros and PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale.

Plus, like we said: Kamiya. We don’t tend to disagree with him.

It’s just the way games go, isn’t it? Something popular is done, then many years later when the bubble has burst and nobody cares about the flash-in-the-pan mixup genre thing (not counting SFXT etc), you release a copycat. It makes… well, it doesn’t make much sense.

We still don’t really understand why PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale With Cheese exists.

That doesn’t mean we aren’t looking forward to it, though.
