New Castlevania Could Lead To New Contra, Excitement Happens

Contra 3 being hard, yesterday.

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow did well for Konami, and rightly so – it was a good game, after all. There’s a sequel coming, and rightly so – the first game did well for Konami, as you may have read in the previous sentence.

But there’s something else we want from the studio, and it turns out we’re not the only ones that want it: Dave Cox, Konami EU’s head of development and guy-who-works-with-Mercury-Steam (they made Lords Of Shadow) has told VG247 he wants more Contra. This makes us happy. See:

“I want to do something else. I love Contra. I’d love to do Contra. At Mercury Steam we’ve got an original idea that I think is really awesome. We’d love to bring that idea to market and I’m hoping that the success of Lords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that.”

This is the part where we usually wax lyrical about it being refreshing for someone on the other side of the wall in gaming being open to talking their hopes, dreams and aspirations beyond an ongoing project. But this is Contra we’re talking about, so instead here’s some videos to show you why you should want more Contra too:

Contra: Shattered Soldier was a return to form for the series after it went off the boil through the PSOne era.

Neo Contra has levels like this, so is instantly brilliant.

Hard Corps: Uprising is a Contra prequel, and it’s actually really good too. So download it.

And as long as any future Contra isn’t the same as C – The Contra Adventure, it’ll be fine.

And, of course, Contra 3. Because why not? (Alright we had Super Probotector over here, but hush down)

CONTRA.
