Kevin Conroy not returning in Batman: Arkham Origins

As far as we are concerned, Kevin Conroy IS Batman. From his early work on the 90s animated series through to the recent Injustice: Gods Among Us, no one else has captured the growling menace and incredible intellect of the caped crusader as well as he. So it is with a heavy heart that we must report that Mr. Conroy will not be voicing the Dark Knight in the next installment of the Arkham series.

Unlike a certain other recent change in established voice actors, there is no drama behind this decision. Arkham Origins will follow a younger, inexperienced Batman as he finds his wings (har) as a superhero. Conroy is famous for his deep, gravelly voice, usually playing a Batman who has spent many years in the role. The developers at WB Montreal apparently wanted “to use a new younger actor because the game features Batman in his early years”. It does make sense, and hopefully leaves the door open for Conroy to return in the future. Head over to Kotaku for the full story.

Anyway, in honour of Kevin Conroy, please enjoy a video of his best work.
