Journey Bags GameCity Prize 2012: Faith In Humanity Almost Restored

Journey, JOURNEYING to win a prize, yesterday.

Journey has JOURNIED (ha ha) home with the GameCity Prize 2012 after being voted as the best thing in the world, ever, by a panel of judges.

Journey wasn’t actually voted best thing in the world ever, that’s just some flagrant editorialising coming out.

The panel was made up of gamers of varying experience levels, from “I don’t touch that crap” up to “Charlie Higson” and whatever inbetween. What this means is a batch of folks from other artistic industries have gathered together, looked at a load of games and decided Journey is the best of those presented.

Compared to the other games on the shortlist – Catherine, Fez, Johann Sebastian Joust, Mass Effect 3, Proteus and Super Mario 3D Land – we sort of have to massive agree with the choice. Not that the other games don’t have some absolute crackers in there, and the inclusion of Catherine is particularly heartening, but Journey is just in a class of its own.

So well done the folks at thatgamecompany. Absolutely deserved. And well done GameCity folks. Anything in which ManShooter 9000: This Time It’s ManShooting doesn’t win an award is a good thing to happen.

Unless it’s the International ManShooter 9000: This Time It’s ManShooting Awards, but even then there’d be a case for Journey to win.
