iOS developer says thing about NGP to get headlines; gets headlines

I’m not about to get involved in fanboy arguments, but I should point out from the beginning here: my flag is firmly planted in the Sony camp for this one. In case you didn’t already know.

Anyway, Neil Young (not that one), top bod at mobile game developers ngmoco, has said some things at GDC about the PSP2, NGP, whatever… that you’ve probably already seen all over the place. Just to refresh your memories:

“I think PSP is done and the new [NGP] is dead on arrival. It’s really difficult to compete with an app store that has hundreds of thousands of applications and a wide range of options where the average price paid is around $1.20 and there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of free applications that are really high quality. So I just don’t think Sony’s going to be able to compete with that.”

But it’s not as simple as that. What it comes down to is this – do you want to play this?

Or do you want to play this?

That’s it. That’s the question. You might want to play both. You might want to play neither. To say a platform is dead on arrival is as stupid as Michael Pachter saying the millions-selling Borderlands was DOA. Pointless, stupid waste of time.

Just like ngmoco’s games then. BURRRRN.

Sorry, that was a cheapshot.
