We’re Watching You…

Last week, a man turned up in the lobby of our office building claiming to be from MI6 and requesting that certain members of Imagine staff, including myself, go down to speak with him, one-by one. So down I went. This big, gruff guy was standing by the security desk in a long black coat and dark glasses. The security guard was giggling. A lot. The MI6 man handed over a shiny atache case then said “bye bye” in a bizarre toddler’s voice over and over again. I hastily returned to the office.

Inside the case I found a set of gambling chips, 5 dice, two packs of cards and a reasonably fancy new mobile phone. The phone was accompanied by a note from the “Secret Intelligence Service” that I’ve managed to lose somewhere already. But it said something like, “Keep this phone, your contacts will use it to contact you.” The phone had a Casino Royale wallpaper on it and a ‘007’ stamp on the envelope containing the note. Which game company now holds the James Bond licence? Activision. So we immediately assumed the MI6 man was an actor hired by the Activision PR department, which clearly has too much time and money on its hands at the moment. Our contacts at Activision have pretended not to know what we’re talking about when we’ve asked them about it, but they’re not fooling anyone.

Anyway, the next day I received a text on my ‘spy phone’ that simply said, “We’re watching you.” Then the day after that a charger for the phone arrived in the post along with a message written in some kind of code that looks like algebra. I have made no attempt to decipher it.

Now, for Activision, the point of all this carry on is to surround the announcement of their first Bond game in mystery, intrigue and excitement, and I suppose this blog entry is proof that it’s kinda worked. But for me, the point of this is that I now own my very first camera phone so, like anyone who has just got their first camera phone, I’ve been going around taking stupid, pointless pictures like this…
