Video: Sony shows off new PlayStation technology

The videos below detail a couple of new bits of tech that Sony is hoping to integrate into the PS3 and PSP systems very soon. The first is high resolution image enlargement technology for both platforms something different. We’re struggling to get out tiny brains around it at the moment, but in this demonstration it appears to be being used as ultra sexy content browsing software. Possibly a little fiddlier and slower than regular pointing and clicking, but so seemless that we might be inclined to forgive any slight shortcomings it might have in practice. Quite what other applications it migt have we’re not sure, but Sony is intending to make this technology available to game developers very soon, so it hopefully won’t be long before we find out.

The other video is a less exciting demonstration of the voice recognition technology already used in recent PS3 Singstar releases, but it’s still interesting to note that Sony if making other developers aware of its benefits. We’d be surprised if Neversoft and Harmonix aren’t both paying close attention.
