Update Lets You Launch Games From Inside Your Own Home

In yet anotherĀ  Gamescom announcement that shows Sony are really making a big push this year, it’s been revealed that the upcoming Home 1.3 update will finally include the ability to launch games from within the Home… sphere. We say “finally”, as we were lead to believe this was a key feature and one set to be present from the very beginning. Well, betterĀ  late than never, yes?

The feature only extends to cover a few games from the outset: Resistance 2, MotorStorm, Far Cry 2 and – the one we’re most happy about – Street Fighter IV. This means before taking part in whichever kind of online battle you’re going for, you can stand around in some kind of plaza, dancing to each other and pointing. Or crouching and pointing – the choice is yours.

Flippancy aside, it’s a nice touch and could turn Home from an interesting distraction into the PS3 hub it was always meant to be. Sure, it’ll just be a glorified lobby system, but if it helps us trash-talk opponents, we’re all for it.

To read more on the other features coming with Home 1.3, see the PlayStation Blog. There they talk about the other additions like more emotes, the ability to preview items better before buying them and cameras, the latter having the potential to be hilarious (or terrifying).
