The longest game announcement countdown ever?

platinumcounter

Platinum Games, the Japanese super-developer behind Bayonetta, is a company that likes to do things by extremes, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the company’s homepage now features a counter that started at an extraordinarily high number. We think it’s counting down in hundredths of seconds and according to our calculations it will reach zero on 1 November 2010. That’s a much longer countdown than these things normally go for. It’s usually a month or so, right?

What will happen when the counter reaches zero is a mystery, but we do know that Sega signed a four-game deal with Platinum back in 2008, and that one of those games is yet to be announced. It was seem reasonable to assume that Platinum Games is counting down to either the announcement or the release of this as yet unnamed game, but when we asked people at Sega, they just said, “We don’t know. Please, just take this copy of Vancouver 2010 and stop asking about that damned counter.” We’re paraphrasing, but that was definitely the message that came across.
