Red Faction Armageddon: why you should care

rfa

So the new Red Faction game, subtitled Armageddon, has been revealed to the world. This time it takes the open world destruction of Guerrilla and puts it under the surface of Mars – some terraforming nonsense has blah de blah. The story isn’t important, or at least it was the least important part of RF:G so we’re going to ignore it again for now. The trailer is a bald man shooting things while aliens chase him a bit and some things blow up. Why should we care?

Because it’s Red Faction, dummy. We gave RF:G 80% in issue 180 and described it as ‘the best tech demo you’ll play all year’. This isn’t an insult as some people seem to think, and an 80% mark is a brilliant jumping-off point for the series. All Volition have to do is keep the fun levels high and they should be on course for another great game. This, we should note, is the same Volition that made Saint’s Row 2. They know how to make things fun.

So, in short: Volition ‘get’ fun; blowing things up is brilliant; we love games set on Mars; anything with Armageddon or Apocalypse or anything similar in the title is sure to be great; please bring back the Ostrich Hammer; get your ass to Mars. Thank you for listening, here’s the trailer.
