PS3 Video Delivery Service launches Wednesday (or Thursday)

Look what we got sent today – our very own invite to the Video Delivery Service launch party next week. Because the party is on the Wednesday, it’s possible that it’ll launch that evening (while we’re sipping Sony’s delicious champagne) or, at the very latest, the next day.

The Video Delivery Service (we have to call it that or Sony gets grumpy with us) is all set to revolutionise (or at least compete with Apple’s and Microsoft’s similar services) the way you watch movies by piping video directly into your PS3 via your broadband pipe. It’ll accessible via the regular PlayStation Store function on your XMB.

The first batch of films have already been announced and include Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and, our favourite, Hannah Montana: The Movie. Films will be available in both HD and SD and for both rental and to own. Pricing has yet to be announced.
