PlayStation Move is an abject failure

PlayStation Move has shipped over a million units since its launch a few weeks ago. This is an abject failure, naturally.

For you see, if something is to be considered a success it has to sell four million units in the first three days of being on sale. It has to generate $1 billion. It has to be featured in glossy mainstream magazines and your favourite celebrity has to Tweet about how much they love it.

To be a success you have to surpass the largest sales records of anything that has come before. You have to understand success is never measured in relative terms – only absolutes. You have to accept that we, uninformed observers that we are, actually know more about the business than those running successful, multinational, manufacturing giants.

One million units in a month is not enough. Seeing as everyone who owns a PS3 should have bought Move on day one (day two at a push), sales should have been around the 39 million mark.

One million units is a failure, because some people on the internet said so. One million units is a failure, because we all know things are incapable of sustaining – god forbid increasing – sales over a number of years. Just look at the PS3 console for that proof. It didn’t sell as well as we expected on launch, and look at it now.

Failed. Forgotten about. There aren’t even any magazines focused on PlayStation in existence anymore.

Get a grip, internet.

EDIT: I missed the European sales figures, but they only add 1.5 million to the overall number so it’s clearly nothing important.

2.5 million Moved in 30 days. I say Move will sell more than 6 Million before Christmas.

  • chronoss2

You guys have to stfu.. It seems you have never heard of games amd accessories who dont sell in the beginning and they continue to sell even after years.. this is for me a better deal than something that sells only the 3 first days and then no more. what a shame to waste time answering this bullplop..

2.5 million is a great number and ever since move came out it has now been out selling the wii

  • Matt

The ps3 has been out selling the wii

Some Places have been sold out of Move Controllers, not just online but also in store. Take a look.

PS Move is selling ok. It’s would surprise me if they have sold over 4 million already, and just not releasing figures yet.

    @chronoss2

Clearly you are 12. The author is being VERY sarcastic. He disagrees with those people who think the move is a failure… or at least thinks they’re jumping the gun.

  • Krys

I would wait for some good games to be released before calling it a failure… the reason I don’t have it: there’s no interesting game out YET! SOCOM and a good tennis simulation could change that!

“For you see, if something is to be considered a success it has to sell four million units in the first three days of being on sale”

Really? where did you read that? I do want to read his/her´s book!

hehe, I got (and liked) the sarcasm. It was refreshing and so true 🙂

  • Edmárcio

    MOVE = Sussess

    This article = FAIL

  • KeeperOfTheWord

Dear sweet zombie jesus! Can you people not detect even a smidge of sarcasm in this?

  • atif

For those people banging on the poor author for writing this article, PLEASE sense the sarcasm!

  • Alec

    I sense some annoyance, I think 🙂

  • I mean shipping 2.5 million is a good start, but how much of it is actually being sold to consumers? And what are they buying? I mean the best game in the States did under 150k, and the best game in Europe did 38k, so are people buying the device and only patching older games?

  • Jack

At first I was confused but then I felt like an idiot.
You are one overly sarcastic guy, you know that?

On the subject of PS Moves sales, I bet they will almost triple by new year. Knowing how many people will just cash in on Christmas.

  • George

I like Move personally… Just there’s not enough good games for it, maybe when the likes of Killzone 3 are released? Bit off topic I know, but tbh, I don’t really care.

  • Link01

I love the sarcasm :D. BTW, love my Move… can’t wait for K3

  • John

Who the fuck wrote this steaming pile of horse caca? What a retard!

  • D.Vader

You are a fucking retarded flame baiter.

“For you see, if something is to be considered a success it has to sell four million units in the first three days of being on sale.”

SAYS WHOM? Steve Jobs? Infinity Ward?

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2010/10/sony-move-controllers-playstation-3-ship.html?

2.5 Million units of anything in 30 days is not a failure. Just looking at this from a pure revenue standpoint the controllers retail at $50 each.

2,500,000 x $50 = $125,000,000 (That is 1/8 of a billion for the retarded author who likely can’t handle fractions).

That’s assuming NO ONE purchased the bundle (with sports champions) or the PS3 Console + Move bundle. If 25%-50% of the people purchased a bundle than that revenue increases significantly.

We are not even into the Christmas season yet.

NOW Gamer Network is full of garbage. You guys are more interested in page views then actually presenting a worth while thought or opinion that isn’t designed to just for user activity.

    Get some goddamn integrity!

You really need to add a /sarcasm tag to this so that all of these comment whores who don’t even bother to take the time to figure out the context of the article won’t feel like such idiots when they finally catch on.

…Actually, I take that back. Keep it like it is so that all of the intelligent people who read the article can point and laugh at them.

  • Garan

    I love these sarcastic articles.

P.S. D.Vader CHILL THE FUCK OUT!

  • A certain somebody

If I could invent a sarcasm detector, I would be rich by now.

  • b

Most of you idiots who think this article was written seriously, get a grip. Holy shit, I probably learned sarcasm when I was 10. Actually, forget what I said. If you actually get heated up over videogames, then it’s not my problem.

  • Jesse James

Wow it amazes me how people hold a belief so much, they start to ignore reality. Clearly this is a Playstation fanboy fan page…you can tell by the knocks at other system(s). The thing that you are missing is….SHIPPED..that means the items have been shipped to the stores, that doesn’t mean they were bought. Do you understand ? Are you clued in yet? This is a technique ALL companies use. As for other systems out selling the Wii?. It’s about time…..it only took like 5 years, the Wii has sold twice as many systems as PS3 since launch. And the PS3 will never catch it in sales….i finally found it! The website where Playstation fanboys come to cry, whine and pat each other on the back…….get a life. Not everybody buys into Playstation Popaganda

  • Gilbot

The reason why the move hasn’t sold more units is because of the serious lack of good software. Of course, that’ll change as better games are released that support it. But so far, eesh. The only move games that I’d play so far are Heavy Rain and…yeah, Heavy Rain. That’s pretty much it.

k first ne hardcore gamer would get it day one, others will get it when ever they can and kids will get it on christmas, ur views or as i see it ur opinion is so far fetched y dont u get ready for ur kinect failure, the ps move is sold out everywhere i go, i bought it day one but only bought 1, ive been looking for a second for awhile now and still cant get one so my guess is they didnt produce enough so y dont we wait till after christmas before we call it a failure

  • Mr X

I think the fact that it looks somewhat like a dildo had something to do with it

  • XxGame-_-GeniexX

I smell an xbox fanboy writing this article. And it’s a failure because of sales? Ok fine. But it’s works really well IMO. And it hasn’t sold much because people KNOW there’s no games for it yet. When all the move compatible games come out, then check the sales record and write another article.

  • Ian Dransfield

I smell someone who doesn’t understand the fundamental concepts of sarcasm.
