God Of War III Ending Cut, Could Return As DLC

God Of War III director Stig Asmussen has revealed that Sony San Diego had to cut a significant battle from the end of God Of War III in order to finish the game, but that this cut content could still return as DLC. Most importantly for GOW fans Asmussen was keen to stress that such content would also be released for free.

Keeping things as spoiler free as possible Asmussen revealed that the cut content involved a Titan battle that would have wrapped up the game, but the team had to find another way. “There was a pretty large thing that we chopped from the ending that I had regrets about, but then something we added at the end that helps make up for it a little bit, and helps make it more personal,” he told Kotaku. “We had titan encounters in the game, we had a pretty big one planed for the end and we got pretty far with it it, but it was just one of those deals where we just had so much.”

But the designers got far enough along with the battle to make it a possible download. “As far as DLC goes, it might be something we might think about getting out there someday,” he admitted. “The pieces are in place, the idea is written. If it’s something we put out there it would be something that would be free.”

While it sounds like the content cut would have added a great deal to the game Asmussen revealed that it was no easy decision to make and that the team agonised over every last cut as well as putting together these massive set pieces. “Those things required so many resources and they’re so hard to work on,” he explained. “It was literally the hardest thing I’ve ever been involved with before in my life and we just couldn’t do more. We couldn’t. It was to the point where we had to remove one just to invest time in the other ones that we had in the game, to get those right. We could have had more, and everything else would have suffered.”
