Oddworld Inhabitants return to PlayStation

It emerged a while ago that the original two Oddworld titles – Abe’s Oddysee and Exoddus – would be making their way to PSN, so the news they have been confirmed for the US store tomorrow comes as little surprise. What may come as a bit of a shock is that the other two Oddworld titles – the Xbox exclusives Munch’s Oddysee and Stranger’s Wrath – could be making their way to PS3 as well.

And that’s not all, as it turns out Oddworld Inhabitants aren’t as finished with game development, as they wanted us to believe when they scarpered from the scene a few years ago. Lorne Lanning, co-founder of the company, confessed on the PlayStation Blog when asked about the Xbox exclusives:

We’re working on a strategy to bring them over as well. May take us awhile, but we hope to achieve what you’re asking for.

And when asked about any future Oddworld titles (in the style of the originals), he responded:

Unlikely that they would continue in the same format of sidescroller. But we’re far from done with Oddworld. Just taking us awhile to get back to it and we’ve currently got a an extremely full schedule with the new stuff.

All of which gets us rather excited. Stranger’s Wrath was a near-masterpiece of gaming joy, and the day Oddworld Inhabitants said they wouldn’t be making any more games was a sad one indeed. We can’t wait to see what they bring us, and we’ll keep you up to date with any further announcements, which should apparently be coming “soon”.

The rather emotional blog post on the release of the Abe titles is here. The comments section is where the minor revelations came about.
