My favourite loading screen ever… Muppet RaceMania

beeker

This is the first in a new series of blogs on Play where we choose some of our favourite things from games that are too obscure, weird, petty or trivial to build a top 5 around.

So yes, I couldn’t do you a top 5 loading screens, but I do have a favourite. Unfortunately, it’s from a pretty old game and I don’t have a screenshot of the loading screen itself because people don’t take screenshots of loading screens, even when they are as awesome as this. You’ll just have to use your imagination as I describe it to you instead.

It’s just a regular loading screen with, y’know, ‘LOADING…’ written on it somewhere, but for one vitally important detail. In the bottom corner is Beeker with just his head and shoulders visible. At first his face is sunk down into his shirt, like he does when he’s worried or scared, but as the data loads his head starts extending up towards the top of the screen, reaching the top when it’s done. Yes, Beeker himself is the progress bar. That’s just genius, that is.
