Motion control with everyday items

Alleged patent registrations by Sony suggest that it’s working on a way for its upcoming motion-control setup to recognise ordinary objects to be used in game as well as the specially designed wand tool. According to Siliconera, the patent displays this through a square sided, u-shaped block, but details how any number of items could be mapped by the PlayStation Eye to be used as a tool to play a game.

We don’t all have geometrically shaped objects sitting about on the coffee table, so the patent then goes on to detail how this could eventually lead to real-life objects doubling for their virtual counterparts, such keys, torches or even weapons. It could be yet another layer to Sony’s motion-control technology that we can look forward to when it finally appears. At present, spring 2010 seems to be the favourite.
