Michigan again

Goichi Suda, better known as Suda 51, the creator of such classic games as Killer7 and No More Heroes has recently expressed his desire to return to one of his lesser known PS2 titles for a remake. Michigan: Report From Hell is something of a cult classic, developed by Suda 51’s studio Grasshopper. The game was technically a survival-horror game, but you play as a cameraman and must solve mysteries in each mission before you run out of film.

As with much of Suda 51’s own work Michigan was very experimental and was loathed and loved in equal measure. His recent revival of interest in the game came from watching a Spanish horror movie, which he felt was very close to it. “I’d like to make Michigan again, or something like it,” he told Gamasutra. “There’s a Spanish horror film called REC, and when I watched it, I realised it was pretty much Michigan, right there. I still have a lot of ideas along those lines, and I’d love to work with Spike sometime to make a new Michigan or a remake.”

Michigan was a very interesting and innovative game. We would hazard a guess that gamers might be more likely to understand it and embrace it these days than before. The five years since it was originally released have seen a lot of changes.
