We wouldn’t have been all that shocked if someone revealed that Activision and Neversoft were working on a Guitar Hero: Megadeth game after some success with the Aerosmith and Metallica versions, but that’s not happening. According to the band’s lead singer and guitarist Dave Mustaine, Megadeth has no interest in making such a game, but that doesn’t mean it can’t come up with something even better.

“I have recently had two very important high-level meetings with the people from Activision and Neversoft, and we are talking about a lot of things, but a Guitar Hero box set is not as attractive to me and the people from Guitar Hero as the new idea that they offered me, as the creative stuff that we are talking about is over-the-moon!” he posted on the band’s official site after fans asked about making a game.

However, Mustaine has his concerns as to whether or not it can be pulled off. “I just hope that someone doesn’t stand in the way of this happening,” he confided. “I know that there are a lot of really damaging results from our mothership (Warner) having some legal disputes with YouTube and Guitar Hero to name just a few.” Warner and Activision actually clashed in 2008 over license fees for tracks appearing in Guitar Hero with Warner Music boss Edgar Boffman calling the amounts “paltry” and Activision CEO Bobby Kotick saying, “We’re going to favor those publishers that recognise and appreciate how much we can add value to their artists.

Given all that history it’s hard to see how this one is going to pan out, but it sounds as if Dave Mustaine and Megadeth are excited so perhaps we should be too.
