Recently announced figures from ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack have revealed that while casual gaming still rules the roost in the UK, it’s the PS3 that is making a push for the top spot in terms of software sales. The top ten best-selling games of 2009 so far show the Wii dominating the top three spots, Professor Layton claiming fourth for the DS and Killzone 2 beating Resident Evil 5 for fifth place.

These figures are all based on single format sales though. Games like FIFA 09, World At War, Street Fighter and Guitar Hero all blow Killzone 2 out of the wateonce you start adding up the cross-platform sales of those games. Still it shows that with big exclusive releasing on the PS3 this year and virtually nothing of note on the Xbox 360 so far there should have been some ground made up in the UK. Sony’s policy of keeping the exclusives coming and solid intervals seems to be working.
