GoldenEye: Reloaded launches the same day as Battlefield 3. What?

Picture the scene: you’re a mid-level, hard-working developer who has just rebooted one of the most beloved games of all time for HD consoles. You’ve got the licence. You’ve got the gameplay, handily borrowed from Call of Duty. What could go wrong?

Well, you could be launching on the same day sure-fire megahit Battlefield 3. Oh.

We thought it was strange too, but apparently Activision isn’t too bothered about throwing its 007 game into the ring with Battlefield. Ballsy? Mental? Or symptomatic of a release schedule that is absolutely rammed with high-profile games?

In October alone we’re going to get Batman, Battlefield and Bond within one week of each other. November is going to see the monster that is Modern Warfare 3 pop in and say hello.

And then a little game called Uncharted 3 makes its bow on November 2nd.

Those are just the big guns (and Bond). So the real question isn’t ‘why is a comparatively small release going head to head with a juggernaut’.

It’s actually ‘have all publishers gone mental’?
