Final Fantasy XIII Break 1 Million Sales On Day One

ff13

Square Enix has revealed that after only 24 hours on the shelves in Japan and released exclusively on the PS3, Final Fantasy XIII has already exceeded 1 million sales. The epic RPG sequel has made its mark as the biggest Japanese games release of the year, matching the performance of Modern Warfare 2 in the UK, which also managed to break the million mark in day one sales.

Not included in this 1 million sales figure is copies of the game sold bundled with a limited ‘Lightening Edition’ PS3, which could actually bump sales up a little higher. As it is there should still be plenty of stock in some areas of Japan as Square Enix shipped 2 million copies across the country in anticipation of these very high levels of demand. It’s expected that even more copies will hit stores over the weekend.

Final Fantasy XIII will be released March 9, 2010, so we still have some time to wait before we get our hands on it, but it will be interesting to see whether or not European and American sales get anywhere near as big as these early Japanese figures. We’re sure Square Enix is hoping they will.
