Dead Space sequels and movie inbound

Variety is reporting that EA has not only auctioned the rights to a live-action Dead Space movie, but is also working on Dead Space 2 and 3. Production double act Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill are currently looking for a writer to adapt last year’s breakout horror title to the silver screen.

Eagle Eye and Y: The Last Man director D.J. Caruso is allegedly already signed up to helm the flick. Once a writer is found and EA gives the thumbs up, the title will be auctioned to studios to see who wants to pick up the tab. Variety says that this process may not start until September.

The report goes on to say that EA “is working on the second and third instalments,” to Dead Space. One of these may actually be Dead Space: Extraction, the Wii spin-off, but it should come as no surprise that Dead Space is being expanded upon; given the critical reaction to the original, a sequel has long been expected.

As Variety points out Dead Space is the fifth EA title of late to be auctioned off for its movie rights with Mass Effect, The Sims, Dante’s Inferno and Army Of Two all getting the Hollywood treatment already. We’ll keep you posted on any new developments in the coming months.
