Call Of Duty movie? Maybe

Recent posts by Robert Bowling, community manager at Infinity Ward, on his Twitter feed have got the gaming world pondering the possibility of a Call Of Duty movie being in the works. The hugely cinematic series has drawn many comparisons to the great war movies of the last 50 years, but Bowling’s Tweet that he was in Paris talking about videogame movies with a director has led many to believe rumours of a COD film are gaining credibility.

First round of meetings in Paris wrapped,” Bowling, who goes under the Twitter name FourTwoZero said. “Grabbing lunch with Xavier Gens, director of the Hitman film while in town. Talking game films.” Xavier Gens is indeed the director of the much criticised, but commercially successful Hitman movie (it made nearly $100 worldwide). The final cut of that movie was actually taken out of his hands with suggestions that his cut was excessively violent. Whatever the truth of the matter, Xavier is a young and quite daring director who clearly believes in the idea that a videogame can be made into a good film.

This Twitter posting from Bowling wouldn’t have made for much mileage on its own, though. The recent trademarking by Activision of the Call Of Duty brand against,  “Pre-recorded movies featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or animation,” also points towards some expansion of the franchise.

Do you think Xavier Gens could be the man for the job, though? Would you watch a Call Of Duty movie? Let us know.
