BioShock 2 Delayed Until 2010

There’s a bug going around because BioShock 2 is the latest game to find its release date pushed back, now falling in the ‘first half’ of 2010 rather than the November 2009 release we had been anticipating. This news comes just a couple of days after 2K announced that Arkane Studios (makers of Dark Messiah and contributing studio on World At War) has been added to the development community making BioShock 2. That now makes four separate studios developing various aspects of the much anticipated sequel.

Arkane (in Lyon, France) is working on level creation, 2K Marin (California) and 2K Australia (Canberra, Oz) are handling the single-player and Digital Extremes (Ontario, Canada) taking up duties on the multiplayer. The original game was originally made by Irrational Games, although this studio was later split into 2K Boston and 2K Australia, highlighting how deceptively big that studio really was.

Anyway, 2K and Take-Two will now only commit themselves to a ‘first-half’ of 2010 release window siting more development time as the reason. We have to imagine that the cluttered Xmas release schedule has had an influence on the decision too. No one wants to go anywhere near Modern Warfare 2.
