Pixeljunk Monsters

So, things have changed since I last worked on Play. Hopefully some of you will remember me from a stint as features editor I had around this time last year, and currently working on a truly mammoth preview of 2009 in the world of PlayStation. Last year’s preview was a muted affair, listing all those titles we’d been looking forward to since the year dot, but this year’s is based more in the reality and immediacy of the year ahead. Things are a good deal closer and infinitely more tangible.

I remember as I left the hallowed pages of Play last year, we didn’t even have this blog up and running. Now it looks like it could quite easily be the highlight of my week, or at very least an easy place to dump my weekly build up of malevolence. I see it as akin to syringing one’s ears. Sure, what comes out isn’t very pleasant, but once you get rid of it, you can hear a good deal clearer. Apologies for that in advance by the way, folks.

I guess the thing that’s changed most over the last year or so in the magical world of PlayStation is the power of the PSN. It’s not just a flaccid appendage swinging around the nether regions of the PS3 any more. It’s solid, constantly growing, and getting plenty of action from you guys. PixelJunk, The Last Guy, Braid, WipEout and a whole bunch more. As good as it is though, we still need more, and it looks like 2009 is going to deliver.

With Chris Reynolds’ departure, you’re losing a world-class News Editor, but with any luck, I’ll be able to at least half-fill his shoes. There’s a lot to live up to, and you’re my judges, so let me know what you think about the new news section, features, and well… anything you like, from how you’re getting on with the latest games to your mum’s phone number.
