Assassin’s Creed Going Multiplayer, Driver Returning

AC2

Ubisoft is the latest company to reflect on its financial results for 2009 and like many others it has been hit hard by poor software sales on Nintendo platforms, but that’s OK because it revealed there would be more Assassin’s Creed, Driver and Ghost Recon in this coming year to make up for that. The biggest revelation is that the Assassin’s Creed game will feature multiplayer for the first time, although it sounds as if this will not be AC III, but rather a spin-off, standalone game.

“The 2010-11 fiscal year will see a greater number of franchise releases than fiscal year 2009-10, including Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction, a new game in the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series, Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands, Driver, Raving Rabbids 4 and a new episode of Assassin’s Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode,” an Ubisoft press release revealed.

Kotaku have since been told that the Assassin’s Creed title will feature Ezio as the hero once again and will not be DLC for Assassin’s Creed II. It’s also interesting to see further confirmation of a new Ghost Recon title and moves to make a new Driver game, which has been absent from this generation thus far. The key title of the year will be Assassin’s Creed though as the most recent instalment has already sold 6 million copies worldwide.
