Aliens vs Predator effectively banned in Australia: nobody surprised

In the grand scale that runs from ‘things you would never see coming, even if you were told 32 years in advance they were going to be coming’ to ‘you really, probably should have seen that coming’ we’re going to err on the side of the latter for this announcement. Aliens vs Predator has been refused classification in Australia, meaning it is effectively banned from sale.

This demi-ban comes in the wake of Sega flat-out deciding against releasing the game in Germany, as it’s a wee bit violent. A statement on the Oz situation was released, saying:

“SEGA Australia can today confirm that the initial submission of Aliens vs Predator has been Refused Classification by the Classification Operations Board of Australia. We will continue to investigate all options available to us, including the possibility of appeal.”

There’s no word yet on whether this means they’ll make any changes or cuts to the game, but it does look like it’s going to have to go that way to be allowed in. Curse you Australia, always ruining everyone’s fun. Or the fun of Australians, at least.

well a mate of mine tells me that it is but only one man holding up the R18 that Australia needs, they had a referendum, which showed most of the country wanted it, this one guys still denies what everyone wants.

    doesn’t stop people importing it.

sure they can import it, but thats not the point. the point is:

“This is about every adult’s right to engage in whatever kind of lawful entertainment they see fit. This is about fighting censorship and enabling freedom of expression through art. This is about bringing Australia into line with every other progressive country in the world and letting our adults play adult-oriented material”

i got this quote from a polictical party set up to pretty much fight for this one thing
