2011: best year EVERRRRRR? I bloody well think so.

It’s strange how I can be so very excited on the back of a bunch of monks, a bloke in the desert, London, a few trailers and an engine announcement via Twitter that hasn’t even been followed up on yet. But I am. And if things go according to plan – and avoiding all hyperbole – 2011 really could be one of the best years for gaming I’ve ever seen.

This is, of course, based entirely on three sequels and not even taking into account things that bring something new to the table, the franchises that will be improved upon or the sequels I’m less bothered about (but will still play). And to think, all it took was the announcements that Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3 and the Elder Scrolls V would all be out next year.

One thing I’m wondering – will this triple salvo (again, ignoring other releases) be enough to steal the limelight from whatever inevitable Call Of Duty comes out next year? They’re all out November or ‘holiday season’, so will be the same kind of time as Activision’s behemoth, and barring any slips or delays this does mean they’ll be going head-to-head.

Are they big enough? Different enough? Capable of taking on COD? Does anyone care? I don’t. Not really, as I’ll be buying all three of those and ignoring the Call, as is my wont.

Anyway, 2012 already has an uphill struggle – put it that way. It won’t have Mass Effect, the Elder Scrolls and Uncharted, as far as I know, and it will have the threat of the end of the world. To say it’s starting out with a handicap is an understatement.

There was a point here at one… point. It was lost.

I don’t know how many people told me that Oblivion: Skyrim was coming out next year, today…. it’s probably the amount of times I laughed…
2011 looks brilliant, with Resistance 3 and Killzone 3 as well, I’m excited about the games you mentioned too. Hopefully 2011 is the best year yet for this generation of consoles!

TBH this has been a slow year. 2011 meanwhile is set to have Gears 3 on 360 and Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Resistance 3 (Co-op is back yay) and most importantly LBP2 😀 compared to this year’s rather slim pickings next year looks huge.
