How to use the PSP to make the holidays less unbearable

Do you have some time off coming up? Will you be going somewhere you don’t have consoles or other things to distract yourself? Do you own, or would you be willing to pick up, a PSP? Well I’ve done a short list of games to keep you sane through the holiday period. Some would call it lazy, I would call it useful:

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Best game on PSP? Quite probably. It helps that missions are bite-size, there’s a nicely distracting management section to it and multiplayer – in case you have any friends/family nearby with a PSP themselves.

God Of War: Ghost Of Sparta
Anger raises its ugly head quite a lot when dealing with family, mainly because they’re always a bunch of prats. As such, using Ghost Of Sparta as a route via which you can diffuse this anger is probably a very good thing to do. Kratos: saving family relationships since 2005.

Z.H.P Unlosing Ranger vs Darkdeath Evilman
I’ve not actually played this beyond the intro, but look at that name then take into account it’s a Nippon Ichi title and you’ll see why this is essential. Timesinks are necessary when dealing with holiday season downtime.

Football Manager 2011
If wacky Japanesey games aren’t your preferred timesink, then FM2011 is probably the way to go. It’s massively pared-down from the PC version and hasn’t actually made much progression on PSP for years, this much is true. But it’s still a fun game, if you’re of the right mindset for a bland, football-managing game. Ideal to distract yourself from your elderly relatives farting, or whatever it is they do.

Ace Combat: Joint Assault
I’m a bit annoyed that this seems to have been released and immediately forgotten about, as it’s really good fun. Yes, it’s just Ace Combat again, but Ace Combat is a great series. As such, this is worth playing – and again, if you have actually got friends with PSPs they can play too. YEAH.

Monster Hunter Whichever Version Is Newest/Best
I have no idea about the Monster Hunter series, but apparently a couple of people like it. So you might. Look, I don’t even care what the game is – so long as it can distract me from having to deal with family, of all things, at Christmas, of all times – so long as it means I don’t have to talk to their stupid, monkey faces – I will play it to death.

Ahem.
