Pixel Junky

Addicted, that’s what I am. For the first time in years I’ve found a game that has become the single most important thing in my life. I play it at home and I play it in the office and, thanks to its Remote Play functionality, I can play it on my PSP before I go to sleep.
It’s testament to PixelJunk Monsters’ appeal that we on Play, and not just me, have become utterly obsessed with it. You can tell we’re obsessed because we’ve got little pet names for the monsters. We fight (literally) over the coins and eggs that the monsters drop when we play in co-op mode. And we talk for hours about the ideal positioning of Laser Turrets (the perfect way for dealing with those bastard-hard bees).
If you don’t know what PixelJunk Monsters is yet, then I suggest you head over to the PlayStation Store right now and see for yourself. But, to put it in a nutshell, it’s a simple yet brilliantly balanced and charming strategy game for all ages! In fact, I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s the best thing I’ve played on the PlayStation 3. And I still can’t believe it’s only £3.49.
The point is that PixelJunk Monsters is exactly what you want from a PlayStation Store game: a simple idea, brilliantly realised and with hours of fun for only a few coins. So, Sony, hold this game up as a standard for other developers to reach – not just for PlayStation Store games, but for full priced games, too – and you’ll have some very happy gamers. At least in the Play offices.
