Alright, so the name sums up what it’s all about and stuff, but it’s not very imaginative, is it? Fortunately, I have an extremely fertile imagination that just loves to make up names for things, so I’ve come up with my own shortlist of names. Sony’s gonna read this and think, “Damn! Why did we call it Move when we could have gone with any of these brilliant suggestions?” Never mind Sony. Maybe next time.
Sony has used its keynote address at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco to name its motion controller and the name is PlayStation Move. The technology was first revealed at E3 last year and speculation has been rife as to what the final product will be called. Some suggested Gem, others Arc, but Move was settled upon.
In what we have to take as our first official PlayStation 3 motion control support announcement, EA has revealed that the next Tiger Woods title will include functionality for the wand technology. Due to arrive June 8, Tiger Woods 11 will include options that support Sony's 'Arc' controller, although the unit itself is not expected to launch until at least a couple of months later.
VG247 is reporting that a LittleBigPlanet sequel is in the works and will be released this year. This news flies in the face of claims from Media Molecule in the past that it would resist a sequel. Its reasoning was that a LBP 2 would alienate buyers of the first game by voiding their creative efforts. MM seemed to think it could bring all the changes and updates to the game it wanted to through DLC alone.
The horse may have bolted on this one, but Sony has just released a statement urging 'Phat' PS3 owners not to switch on their PS3s this evening while it continues to find a resolution to issues that have been locking gamers out of their consoles all day. While it still doesn't have an official name, Sony has been boasting about how easy it is for developers to produce games using its motion controller, codenamed Arc. According to Sony Arc has a massive advantage of Microsoft's Natal because it doesn't require a whole new code base for game development and simply latches on to what studios are already using.
Heavy Rain finally hits shelves February 26 and to mark the occasion Sony has teamed up with HMV, Game and Gamestation to give uncertain gamers a hands-on taster of what they can look forward to at select stores. Head to these stores on the 26th, 27th or 28th and you'll get to see some of the scenes play out and try before you buy.
Some Uncharted 2: Among Thieves DLC is coming February 25 and Sony has revealed some of the key details about what you'll be getting. The pack includes two multiplayer maps based on locations from the first game and a whole bunch of character skins too. Plus there are loads of new trophies and medals to unlock and it only cost £3.99. Full details and screens after the jump.
Perhaps as a response to all the attention being paid to Microsoft this week (damn them and their dedicated games conference!) Sony has launched a mesmerising new God Of War III trailer for you to drool over. It's got plenty of gameplay, some set piece sneak peaks and lots of angry voice over from Kratos himself. Best bit is probably at the end though. "PS3, It only does Vengeance." Check out the trailer after the jump.
The US Official PlayStation Mag is touting a scoop that inFamous will be getting a sequel in 2010. With the back end of the year looking a little sparse on PS3 we would expect at least one major franchise to make an appearance, but what really cements the rumour as erring on the side of truth is the statement from Sony on the matter.
Rumours have started circulating that From Software has a sequel to unique PS3 RPG Demon’s Souls in the pipeline. The latest hints have been dropped in a podcast from Japanese magazine, Dengeki Games. You can listen for yourself if you want, but for the majority of our readers who don’t understand Japanese, what you need to know is that a sequel to a very difficult, very interesting game released last year was mentioned. Certainly ...
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Sony’s chief financial officer, Nobuyuki Oneda, has revealed that Sony is still making a loss on every PS3 unit sold, albeit less of a loss now than when the console launched in 2006. Sony is currently believed to be losing about 6 cents in every dollar on PS3s (about $18 per unit sold), as opposed to the 13 cents per dollar it was losing initially. We should point ...
Peter Moore, the head of EA Sports and former Xbox 360 tattoo flasher, has said that the PlayStation 3 motion controller, codenamed Arc, is a very different experience than Nintendo's Wii. Despite both being wand based Moore seems to believe that the underlying technology requires a whole new approach. He confirmed that EA already has some sports titles in development for the platform.
We weren't sure how popular EyePet was going to be even though we fell in love with it a little on the Play team, but it seems the little fella did well enough to warrant a sequel. Speaking to Gamekyo Sony France’s George Fornay has revealed that a follow-up is in the works. It probably wouldn't be much of a leap to suggest it will involve use of the motion control tech launching later this year.
Sony and Arsenal have partnered up to offer action replays of match events to spectators straight to their PSPs. The scheme sends the replays of attempts on goal and such like direct to the handheld machines via the WiFi network around Arsenal's Emirates Stadium. The service is to be called Arsenal TV Matchday will cost £10 to download the initial application and will work at Premier League games for the remainder of the season.
If suspicious, unnamed sources are to be believed, Sony is planning an effective 'relaunch' of the PSPgo and an accompanying marketing campaign to push the tiny handheld into the homes of many more across the globe.
Any relaunch wouldn't see changes to the hardware, we're pretty sure - what with it being less than a year old. We would hope to see a price drop, though, and maybe some more incentives to drag 'vanilla' PSP owners over to the digital distribution ...
