Can someone please explain why, in the last 14 years it has been necessary to release 15 ‘different’ Worms games? Okay, so there were a few 3D ones and one that was supposed to be some sort of puzzle game, but the other 11 have just been the same unfair, annoying crap over and over again, and that includes the one recently released on the PSN. It was bad enough enduring these stupid games on the PSone and ...

Reports globally and from Sony itself that 'Phat' PS3s are once again operational. This comes after a virtual 24 hour blackout of the bigger and older units stopping people from playing some games or getting online. The fault seems to have stemmed from a calendar fault that misinterpreted 2010 as a leap year. Since it is now March 2, the problem can be solved by simply changing the date manually.

The horse may have bolted on this one, but Sony has just released a statement urging 'Phat' PS3 owners not to switch on their PS3s this evening while it continues to find a resolution to issues that have been locking gamers out of their consoles all day. For unknown, but widely speculated reasons a number of PS3 owners (seemingly only those who bought 'phat' PS3s before the launch of the PS3 Slim last year) are experiencing PSN shut out issues that have gone on to lock them out of games offline as well. The fault causing this lockout situation remains unclear, but the Internet is ablaze with speculation that it has something to do with a calendar bug on older PS3 units.

We've got a couple of excellent looking comic-inspired action movies coming in the next few months and easily the most popular at the moment is Kick-Ass, created by MarkMillar , the comic writer behind Wanted. Now we've got a game based on the movie, based on the comic coming out April 15 on PSN and iPhone. The game is a third-person action title with three playable characters and local co-op.

(In response to the fine reaction this post received the other day (oh yes, a fine reaction indeed), I thought I'd make this into a regular, hard-hitting and incendiary series of posts. Today we continue...) I’ve just spent a long weekend playing Plants vs Zombies. Yes – that means I was playing on my PC. I can only apologise. But when it comes to playing one of the best zombie-based garden defense games ever made, you have ...

The Official PlayStation Magazine in the US has suggested that cross-game chat, a feature many PS3 gamers would like to see brought to their console, could be restricted to subscribers only. The ability to chat with friends playing different games is enjoyed already by Xbox 360 owners and is one of the most requested updates to the PS3. Sony has in the past hinted that such a service would be coming in time, but this news will come as a blow to many.

PSN will be closed down for maintenance later today with the official cut off point being 4pm. Sony hopes to have it back up and running by 5:30pm so it hopefully won't disturb your gaming time too much. The downtime includes the Store and online games. That's about all there is to say, but at least now you know.

Dead Space: Extraction, the on-rails Wii shooter that rated so highly but sold so poorly may be on its way to PSN, if a survey outed by Kotaku is accurate, correct and actually true. But wait! There also seems to be another Dead Space title, this one subtitled Planet Cracker, on the way. Extraction, which holds a rating of 82% on Metacritic, would apparently come in at around the $15 mark - which would probably work out at £10-15 ...

Sega has announced the latest Sonic The Hedgehog game, this time making the bold move of sticking a 4 at the end of the name, making this the official sequel to Sonic 3 after a 16-year gap. It’s released on the PSN Store this summer. We don’t even want to go through a list of reasons it might be good this time, it’s becoming too painful. Instead let’s just pretend like it doesn’t matter ...

Are you waiting for the inevitable announcement of PS2 games coming to PSN? Well, wait some more! As no, we don't actually have that announcement today. What we do have, though, is the mention of PS2 games while talking about PSN. This, frankly, is tantamount to an announcement as far as we're concerned. The non-announcement-but-something-that-piqued-our-interest came from PlayStation's senior VP in America, Peter Dille, who said these words to IGN: "We're working really hard on it. We're pushing the third-party community and ...

Sony has filed a number of new trademarks for what would appear to be upcoming titles. The filings give no hint as to platform, but look likely to be PSP or PSN games rather than PS3. They include possible take on the ninja genre called Legend ofKunoichi. The other titles are Smashbreak, Digi-tiles and Earthshield.

According to this month's edition of PSN magazine Qore, Heavy Rain will see a February 16 release in the US, leading us to believe we'll be getting it around the same time. In fact, we feel we're entitled to it before the Yanks, for no reason other than we really, really want to play it now. Anyway, the news comes in the wake of the BBFC giving the game a 15 certificate and a collector's edition - exclusive to HMV - ...

Sony used their keynote speech at CES 2010 to once again talk up their plans to integrate PSN content into more than just PS3 and PSPs. While the plan has been floating around for nigh-on a year now, we've been given a bit more information as to what this will actually entail. Basically, users will have one account that will be able to access PSN downloads on network-enabled Bravia and Blu-ray players, as well as Windows PCs. Which certainly sounds ...

In an interview conducted by Activision's UK boss Andrew Brown for MCV Sony's Ray Maguire about how soon we could expect to see a download only future on consoles. Maguire, the Sony UK head, pointed at poor average connection speeds in the UK as the most important factor, although this could all change by 2012 when the government's Digital Britain plan comes to fruition (it promised minimum 2Mb per second broadband for every home by then).

One of the Xbox Live Arcade’s best games will make its way onto the PS3, at long last, next year. Assault Heroes is a retro-style top-down shooter with modern production values and is, quite literally, a blast. It’s one of those two-stick shooters where you play in a heavily armed jeep, then occasionally a heavily armed boat, then even on foot sometimes. If you have fond memories of games like Jackal, Ikari Warriors and SWIV, then you’ll love ...
