Alright, so the name sums up what it’s all about and stuff, but it’s not very imaginative, is it? Fortunately, I have an extremely fertile imagination that just loves to make up names for things, so I’ve come up with my own shortlist of names. Sony’s gonna read this and think, “Damn! Why did we call it Move when we could have gone with any of these brilliant suggestions?” Never mind Sony. Maybe next time.

While it still doesn't have an official name, Sony has been boasting about how easy it is for developers to produce games using its motion controller, codenamed Arc. According to Sony Arc has a massive advantage of Microsoft's Natal because it doesn't require a whole new code base for game development and simply latches on to what studios are already using.

We've been hearing more about 'Gem'/'Arc', or whatever they end up calling it, over the last few months. It's going to be a wand-like motion controller for PS3, and it's going to be... well, it's going to be a motion controller. That's all we really know. You can shoot orcs with a bow and arrow using it. We're as much in the dark as you are. But aside from a couple of tech demos, what it probably looks like and ...

Peter Moore, the head of EA Sports and former Xbox 360 tattoo flasher, has said that the PlayStation 3 motion controller, codenamed Arc, is a very different experience than Nintendo's Wii. Despite both being wand based Moore seems to believe that the underlying technology requires a whole new approach. He confirmed that EA already has some sports titles in development for the platform.

We weren't sure how popular EyePet was going to be even though we fell in love with it a little on the Play team, but it seems the little fella did well enough to warrant a sequel. Speaking to Gamekyo Sony France’s George Fornay has revealed that a follow-up is in the works. It probably wouldn't be much of a leap to suggest it will involve use of the motion control tech launching later this year.

For a while we though it would be the Sphere and then word came that it would be Gem, but now VG247 is reporting that the PlayStation 3 motion controller will be called Arc. David Cage has once again stated that Quantic Dream are seriously looking into uses for the PlayStation motion controller/Wand/MoCon/Voodoo Stick. While he wasn't actually talking about motion control in Heavy Rain - beyond the shakey-sixaxis action we've already talked about - Cage did say these words to Destructoid: "I am curious to see what can be done with more mature games, if it can be used to support immersion and create a new way of playing. Quantic Dream will ...

Electronic Arts’ CEO John Riccitiello has apparently let slip what Sony’s motion control ‘wand’ is going to be called. Speaking at the UBS 37th Annual Global Media Conference, Riccitiello said, “In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.” Sony’s standing by its claim that no official name for the ‘wand’ has been announced, with a statement saying something along ...

The announcement of Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition/Director's Cut/The Extended Trilogy took many of us by surprise, but it would seem Capcom doesn't want to keep us in the dark about anything else. Instead of just announcing the update is to be one way or the other, the Japanese developer is putting a decision to the public. Namely: should the game be a fully-boxed, shop release or DLC? Speaking on the Capcom Blog, 'Kramez' said: Here's where we're at: in Japan, Alternative ...

Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka is known for making reasonably outlandish claims – like, for example, that the next PES game will reinvent football as we know it, or something else we just made up to illustrate the point. But when he claims Konami is looking to incorporate motion control into its next game then you start paying attention. Speaking to IGN, Seabass said: "Up until 2009 we believed all the platforms should have the same controls and features. That's no longer the ...

Among the many exciting announcements from TGS over the weekend, one of the most exciting was that Resident Evil would be supporting the PS3's motion-control technology when it launches next year. This in turn led to speculation that some of the Wii's very well-received Resident Evil rail shooters (Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles) could be given HD upgrades to appear on the PS3, but Resi 5 producer Jun Takeuchi isn't so sure.

The first quarter of 2010 is shaping up to be the best time for gaming ever – thank you Modern Warfare 2 for scaring everything else off. Now added to the pile of gaming delights showing up at the beginning of next year is a particular peripheral that some of you may well be interested in – PS3 motion control. Speaking to the wonderfully dull Times, SCE CEO (gotta love acronyms) Kaz Hirai let the release date slip, saying: "We are slating it ...
