It has emerged that now defunct Swedish developer Grin were working on a new Final Fantasy project for Square Enix, codenamed ‘Fortress’. The spin-off title was to be an action game more in keeping with Grin’s own background and looked to be set in the Final Fantasy XII era. Grin began work on Fortress straight after finishing up Bionic Commando for Capcom, but went bust last month. With the company no more a great deal of concept art for the project is now surfacing giving us a glimpse of what we’re missing out on.

Speculation is rife this morning that Sweden based developer Grin could be facing closure after the poor performance of its games this year. Its Barcelona and Gothenburg studios were both closed earlier this year citing financial difficulties and it is now being reported that staff based in the Stockholm HQ have been told not to show up to work.
