Warner Bros Home Entertainment has decided to buy a majority stake holding in Rocksteady, the London based developer of Batman: Arkham Asylum. The development team there is already working on a sequel to last year’s critically and commercially successful Dark Knight adventure, which is to be published by Warner. The company, better known for its movie and TV production, has been expanding rapidly in the games market.
In a recent article exploring videogame violence, Batman comic writer Landry Walker has called on gamers to think more about how they approach violence in games to get the most from them. Drawing on examples from how some gamers were playing Batman: Arkham Asylum, Walker seemed concerned that violence in games was being treated in a disappointingly unrealistic fashion. He also explained how he felt Batman: Arkham Asylum was a better gaming experience when played with stealth and cunning in mind.
Arkham Asylum 2? They’re mad. While we’re excited to hear that Rocksteady is going to make another Batman game, we’re a little confused as to why it has to be called Arkham Asylum 2. A case for changing the name later on in development we think. Anyway, this debut trailer shows us that the Joker is alive, slightly unwell and clearly up to more mischief as his goons roam the streets and drive around in bumper cars.
