We're reaching the end of the show now, and my battery life, so it's time to sum up. Some good news, especially with the movie downloads, the confirmation of God Of War III and some other price and package news, but on the whole there wasn't much new. A lot of old games, really.
Time to go!
Jack's back on stage and he's announcing a new PS3 pack for $399, an 80GB PS3 with the same functionality as the 40GB one, so that still means no move back the backwards compatibility. No word on if this package is coming to the UK or not but where the US leads, we seem to follow. I'll hunt down Sony's UK PR in a minute and let you know.
More on the games now, and Jack name drops some exclusives: MotorStorm Pacific Rift, InFamous and more. Cut to video showing exclusive ...
Right, Wi-Fi is back up and I can now blog a bit quicker. Ready?
PSP comes to the fore now with Resistance: Retribution announced for Sony's handheld. It looks to be a third-person shooter, starring Nathan Hale. And, yes, it looks pretty decent. At least it's not an FPS on PSP. Worst. Idea. Ever. Back to PS3 and more connectivity. "Life With PlayStation" is announced and will give you live news from Google on your PS3. Apparently available at the end of the month.
Jack moves onto Sony Online Entertainment and ...
Okay, so Sony has shut off the Wi-Fi connection at the conference so this isn’t quite as live as I’d hoped it would be. Still, here are the announcements, my thoughts and reactions from what I hope will be the best conference of the show.
So far the conference looks like a Sony Centre. The walls of the stage are line with the latest Bravia models, six larger screens are showing some of the latest PS3 games: MGS4, Gran Turismo: Prologue, PixelJunk Eden, echoChrome, The Force ...
EA's press conference had hardly any big announcements, but it still made for an entertaining watch. Business speak was thankfully kept to an absolute minimum as CEO John Riccitiello allowed the developers to take to the stage and let the games themselves do the talking.First up, (following a bunch of Sims-related crap) was the cool-looking Dead Space. The volume was cranked-up to a stupid level as exec producer Glen Schofield tried to shoot the legs off some angry mutant. "The core gameplay mechanic is strategic ...
We're livid, about FFXIII on the 360. Bloody livid! Actually, we're only slightly bothered by yesterday's announcement at the Microsoft conference, as third-party exclusives are pretty hard to justify in this day and age. Final Fantasy XIII's unseen budget is likely to be astronomical, and releasing it as a multiformat title may be the only way to recoup those costs. There's no denying that Microsoft has done well, in securing the game for the 360. The shift in the Japanese market, which has seen home consoles ...
Well we managed to stay awake long enough to crawl into the Square Enix press conference, which (as we predicted) was exclusively focused on FFXIII. But rather than demo the game, Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto and Yoshinori Kitase sat there looking a bit bored, while answering the majority of questions posed by journalists with the polite Japanese equivalent of a "no comment".
Most of the queries inevitably revolved around SE's earlier announcement, during Microsoft's press conference, that FFXIII will be released on both the PS3 and 360. When asked "why ...
We're still watching Microsofts E3 keynote speech, and we just saw Bethesda's Todd Howard take to the stage to give a compelling demonstration of Fallout 3. It's looking mighty impressive. However, Howard had some infuriating news for PS3 owners. Microsoft has bagged itself "exclusive downloadable content" for the upcoming RPG, which will be only available on the 360 and PC. We have no idea what this content is yet but, whatever it is, we sincerely hope it is shit. Thanks Bethesda, thanks a bunch!
It's only an hour or so into Microsoft's E3 conference and Sony's arch rival is going going straight for the jugular.During his keynote speech senior vice president, Don Mattrick, bravely stated "I'm willing to declare here, today, that Xbox 360 will sell more consoles worldwide than PS3 and Wii."Those are fighting words indeed, especially when nearly everyone else is predicting the exact opposite. Sony's press conference is tomorrow where we hope Kaz Hirai will respond with a selection of scathing mum jokes.
After a 12 hour flight that consisted of stinky man-farts, French air hostesses with stupid hair, and other things that made it a living hell, Play has finally arrived in Los Angeles and has infiltrated E3 (we say infiltrated because everyone seems to think we're the American 'Play Magazine', and our badges say we're from Massachusetts).Anyway...not much has happened yet, in fact we're surrounded by plastic wrapping and massive cardboard boxes as most of the exhibitors are still getting their shit together. Microsoft's press conference is ...
I, like everyone who didn't have to attend the event, used to love E3. It was the closest thing the gaming world had to a celebration, despite the absolutely punishment that must be endured by the people that work there. There was something cathartic about receiving an absolute onslaught of news, in the middle of the year; since the release schedule is usually in drought mode, by July, E3 re-affirmed our love of games in a slew of exciting announcements. Since it was downsized in ...
I had a planning meeting with Sony recently. Okay, I realise that that doesn’t sound particularly interesting on the surface, but what we talked about was: PlayStation 3 in 2008 and that, you should know, was very interesting indeed.
I can’t really talk specifics, but it’s safe to say that this really is going to be the year of PlayStation 3 – and that isn’t just hyperbole from a PlayStation magazine editor.
Most of the games I was shown have already been announced – Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and Motorstorm 2 were ...
