Remix is just the kind of PS2 port we
can get along with – one that’s faithful to
an already great game, utilizes the PSP’s
features and packs in a few
exclusives bits too. Excellent.

It’s fair to say that THUG 2 on PS2 rekindled
our appreciation of the Tony Hawk’s
franchise after the lacklustre THUG. It offered
the perfect amalgamation of the joie de
vivre (all right, puerile humour) of Jackass, as
embodied by Bam Margera, and
skateboarding athleticism, as personified by
(the almost geriatric) Tony Hawk, unleashed
from the skateparks to terrorise (or at least
mildly nark) the citizens of an assortment of
the world’s cities.
All that made THUG 2 on PS2 great has
been successfully kneaded into UMD – the
intuitive tricks and combos that reward skilful
players, the real life ’boarders, ALL the
modes, including, much to our delight,
Create-A-Skater, which retains its
picture-importing facility (courtesy of the
Memory Stick) so we can pull faces and
then crash them into pillars, smash them
into walls and grind them into the ground
in the true spirit of Jackass.
There’s a little extra content to boot –
exclusive levels based on Atlanta, Kyoto,
Santa Cruz and Vegas (we love the Vegas!)
available in Classic mode. There’s also a
selection of four-player mini-games
courtesy of Wi-fi wizardry, including Combo
Mambo, SLAP!, and Scavenger Hunt,
making Remix just the kind of PS2 port we
can get along with – one that’s faithful to
an already great game, utilizes the PSP’s
features and packs in a few
exclusives bits too. Excellent.
