Featured 'A' Game: Army of Two

It’s solid, and what it does is done proficiently and with a view to entertain. There was no real need to make it quite so obvious though and, particularly with the Aggrometer, it’s to the detriment of the game.

Featured 'B' Game: Burnout Paradise

This is a polished, high-quality product, but its repetitiveness makes it less than compelling. Criterion seems to have lost sight of the high-adrenaline dynamic that makes Burnout exciting.

'C' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'C'
Featured 'C' Game: Call Of Duty 4

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is an energetic FPS that immortalises the franchise, and is arguably the best of its genre on the PS3. It’s no revolution, but astounding twists and creative set pieces prove it’s a quality purchase.

Featured 'D' Game: The Darkness

Few licensed games go beyond the realms of their source material, but The Darkness does it in a fun, gritty and engaging way that shows other developers how it’s done on the PS3. This unique FPS will fi nd many fans upon release.

Featured 'E' Game: Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion

Sure, it has more faults than most games, but then it has more of everything than most games. There’s just so much to explore and discover here. Never has such a rich and fully-realised game world been committed to disc.

'F' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'F'
Featured 'F' Game: Fight Night Round 3

Let’s hear it for nice graphics. For sure the only major difference between this and the PlayStation 2 version is the texture quality. It has a much bigger impact than you might think as well, making it well worth upgrading to the next-gen.

'G' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'G'
Featured 'G' Game: GTA IV

With only the most insignificant flaws remaining, Grand Theft Auto IV is a triumphant epic that no other developer could ever create. Designed with unrelenting passion, the series has categorically set the standard for the coming years.

'H' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'H'
Featured 'H' Game: Heavenly Sword

Heavenly Sword is an experience worth having, but not for £40. If this game was longer than six hours, we’d give it a much better score, but the length of it isn’t quite redeemed by the great story and mediocre gameplay.

'I' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'I'
Featured 'I' Game: Iron Man

Flying around as a man in an iron suit can be fun, but, unfortunately, this is bogged down by repetitive objectives and bizarre controls.

'J' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'J'
Featured 'J' Game: Jericho

The worst ending to a videogame ever and a mediocre start aren’t enough to ruin one of the better shooters to emerge in years. Barker’s influence is something that elevates Jericho, despite its problems, above many other FPSs. A gory treat.

'K' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'K'
Featured 'K' Game: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

Kane & Lynch probably has the most mature application of cinematic conventions in an action game yet, and it brims with original ideas. However, it’s let down by dodgy AI, a poor cover system and a variety of glitches.

'L' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'L'
Featured 'L' Game: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

There’s so little here for anyone who’s played the previous versions, but a lot for those who haven’t. Unfortunately, we’re in the former camp and we’re passed the whole funny Lego thing now. Bring on Batman and Indiana Jones, we say.

'M' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'M'
Featured 'M' Game: Motorstorm

Truly awesome without the online mode, and an absolute must-buy launch title with it. Certain to be supplanted at some point, but there are very few that won’t appreciate the mix of speed, quality visuals and plain fun racing.

'N' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'N'
Featured 'N' Game: Need For Speed ProStreet

It has a multitude of features that, while not new to racing games, certainly have a dramatic effect on the franchise, and it’s also more serious now. These things, surprisingly, make ProStreet the best Need For Speed game in years.

'O' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'O'
Featured 'O' Game: Orange Box

It’s five games – every one of which is among the best of its type, if not the best – for the price of one. Had Valve updated it for the PS3 then it would have scored even higher.

'P' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'P'
Featured 'P' Game: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008

PES 2008 stumbles, rather than sprints onto the PS3, leaving us with the first Pro Evo game that falls short of the FIFA franchise. We expected a revolutionised football title that’d set the series back on course, but this is just shameful.

Featured 'R' Game: Rock Band

Once you get to grips with the new guitars and find people to play with, Rock Band is a fantastic title that oozes quality. Could it be the best rhythm- action title ever? You know, it just might be.

Featured 'S' Game: Sega Rally

It’s just such a wonderful game that as long as you can get over the fact that the cars behave in quite a strange way, and the control is incredibly loose, you’re guaranteed to enjoy it. So, go out and get it.

'T' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'T'
Featured 'T' Game: Tony Hawk's Project 8

Project 8 is a breath of fresh air after the Jackass-centric previous games. Furthermore, the inclusion of Sixaxis tilt for balancing and an open world without hide-the-load-screen sections make this the best Hawk game since the third.

'U' - Click here to view all the games listed under 'U'
Featured 'U' Game: Unreal Tournament III

Finally, a version of Unreal Tournament that can proudly stand shoulder-to-armour-plated-shoulder with its PC brethren. Epic has created a monster of an FPS that’s only slightly let down by its single-player mode.

Featured 'V' Game: Virtua Fighter 5

Difficult to score as, despite the obvious quality of the piece, it’s something many of us simply can’t get the most out of, and without a good deal of effort, it’s something of a chore. It’s time for the dreaded, ‘one for the fans’.

Featured 'W' Game: WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008

Entering the ring with a lot to prove, the development team has been both daring and dynamic in its approach. Despite a few glitches, Yuke’s has produced a game that can more than hold its own with the quality SmackDown games of old.
