Frankly, no snooker game is ever going
to set the world alight, but we still hold
out hope for a title that feels smooth and
intuitive. World Snooker Championship
2007, as you might have already
guessed, is not that game.

Rare is skill so evident in exhibition as
it is in snooker, or at least we think
so anyway. The speed in which
the masters pot and position balls about
the table is something that will always
baffle and impress us, whereas sports like
football or rugby offer far less wonderment.
Consequently, we’re always rather
disappointed by the pedestrianism of snooker
videogames as they fail to either enable us
to pot and, more crucially, entertain like the
enigmatic O’Sullivan. Unfortunately, the PS3
version of World Snooker Championship 2007
doesn’t buck the trend.
Most of the failing of this particular title
comes down to the controls. It’s far too
complicated to produce a more calculated
shot, the game demanding that you use
several less-than-intuitive button presses to
organize your cuing. The fiddly controls also
disrupt any chance of finding a rhythm, often
a crucial part of a successful frame. Until
developers find a way to make videogame
snooker simpler to use than a real cue, it’s not
going to offer the appeal of other videogame
sport-equivalents.
Of course, the physics are decent enough
and even though the presentation is some
way short of ‘next-gen’, it will satisfy many, but
the game is found wanting in too many crucial
areas to be worth your while. Foul and a miss.
