A very broad way of looking
at Mafia II would be to
consider it a mob-based
version of Grand Theft
Auto: it’s got the same open-world
action theme, replete with bad
guys bathing themselves in blood
for buckets of money, but set GTA
IV against 2K’s latest addition to
its family and you’ll be able to
see the difference.
Developer Illusion Softworks is
taking a hardline approach with
Mafia II, it’s a grittier, and distinctly
more adult Goodfellas-style affair,
rather than the romanticised
Bugsy Malone-type game we
played before.
DeLuca’s Restaurant forms
the hub for the local gangsters, a
place for them to relax, do some
laundry and sign contracts (ahem)
with some of the most violent and
corrupt men in Empire City. It’s also
here that you’ll start your career,
with a discussion on vegetarianism
that, in the subtle way that only
mobsters have, leads into the
suggestion that you kill a man.
