Final Fantasy 7 HD Remake: “I Would Be Tempted To Delete Things”
Final Fantasy VII HD – is it coming? Still a no. Probably. Maybe.
Final Fantasy VII HD remake fans – I hate to break it to you, but I think Square Enix is trying to let you down gently. PS3 news across the world has been reporting the rumour for years now, it’s confirmed, it’s denied, it’s FFVII HD, it’s FFVII-2, it’s nothing, it’s the crazy pipe dream of a bunch of rabid fans…
It’s likely the last one in most cases, but it’s still reported as the good ol’ PlayStation 3 news. Maybe it’ll travel over to being PlayStation 4 news. Who knows? Not us.
Anyway, as people always have to ask Squenix about Final Fantasy VII HD (I meant to when I was over there, but I genuinely forgot to bring it up in my interview as FFXIII-2 was more interesting than speculation) they do still talk about it. And Yoshinori Kitase, speaking to OXM, said these words about it:
“If I may speak as a game creator, if we were to produce a remake of VII, for example, I would be really tempted to delete things and add new elements, new systems or whatever because if we were to make exactly the same thing now, it’d be like a repeat.
“It’d be an issue of repetition and not as much fun to make such a game. So I’d be really interested in rearranging games or reshaping games into something slightly different even though it’s supposed to be the same game. But if we did that, the fans might be disappointed or ‘this is not what I was expecting’ so in that sense maybe some might say that it’s better to let memory be memory.
“When we play the games we made years ago, sometimes we think ‘oh, that is not really cool’ or ‘that probably should have been a bit better than that’ and that sort of thing.
“But on the other hand, those slightly negative features and bits, for some of the really enthusiastic fans of these titles, that gives the game extra flavour or personality or whatever. So maybe they would rather we didn’t do anything about it and we just leave it in as it is. It’s very difficult to decide what we should we keep in and what we should take out.”
Consider yourselves told. We’ll leave it alone for now. Well, at least until PS4 comes out. Or maybe just Vita. Final Fantasy VII HD on Vita? Yeah, we’d get on board with that…
