Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Officially Unveiled
Activision has finally revealed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 after numerous leaks and teases.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is being pitched as a return to the gameplay of the first four Tony Hawk’s games, before it all went downhill.
Delighted as we are to see the series return, there are some concerns. For one, the Game Informer reveal says that the game “weds the series’ finely tuned gameplay with new additions such as power-ups and the ability to shoot projectiles for specific missions”. Power-ups and projectiles doesn’t sound like classic Tony Hawks to us. However, this could be limited to particular modes, rather than being a part of the single-player campaign proper.
The other thing that’s worth bearing in mind is that developer Robomodo doesn’t have a stellar history. Robomodo, for example, didn’t work on the original Tony Hawk’s games that Tony Hawk’s 5 is trying to emulate, but rather, the likes of the awful Tony Hawk’s Ride.
We genuinely hope that Robomodo can pull off Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, however. It would be great to see the series return and prove to be back to its best. We’ll have to wait to get our hands on the game until we can tell if Tony Hawk’s 5 will get anywhere near close to that.
In the meantime, here’s a couple of screenshots from Game Informer:
